Vistra secures long-term nuclear PPA from Comanche Peak nuclear plant

Texas-based energy company Vistra Corp. has inked a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to deliver 1,200 megawatts of clean, reliable nuclear power from the Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant. Deliveries begin in late 2027 and will reach full capacity by 2032, with an option to extend the deal another 20 years.

While the buyer remains undisclosed, Vistra has been actively negotiating with large power consumers such as data centers seeking long-term, zero-carbon energy sources. This agreement underscores growing demand for stable nuclear energy amid Texas’ rapidly expanding electricity needs.

Beyond the Comanche Peak contract, Vistra is expanding its generation portfolio across the state:

  • Two new advanced natural gas units (860 MW) are being added in the Permian Basin, boosting capacity to 1,185 MW.

  • Around 400 MW of gas upgrades have already come online, with more planned.

  • The 200 MW Oak Hill Solar Project is expected to launch in late 2025.

  • The retiring Coleto Creek coal plant will be repowered into a 630 MW gas facility.

Vistra aims to invest more than $1 billion in Texas generation capacity through 2028—potentially adding 2,000 MW to the ERCOT grid.

This landmark PPA not only strengthens Vistra’s nuclear footprint but also signals a broader trend: major energy users are looking to lock in dependable, low-emission power for decades to come.

Glen Rose Tigers Dominate in District Opener

The Glen Rose Tigers came out firing Friday night to kick off district play, taking on the Godley Wildcats in the annual “Battle of the Cats.” The Tigers showed no mercy, cruising to a 56–21 victory and bringing home the coveted trophy for the 10th year in a row.

From the opening kickoff, Glen Rose set the tone—executing on both sides of the ball and keeping the pressure on Godley all night long. The offense was sharp, the defense relentless, and the energy from the sidelines showed why this team continues to be a district powerhouse.

With the win, the Tigers improve their district record to 1–0 and look to keep the momentum rolling as they hit the road Friday, October 17th, to face the Hillsboro Eagles.
